Webinar 1 via ZOOM
January 14, 2020
8:00 pm to 9:30 pm ET

Focus: Heteropatriarchy and the Three Pillars of White Supremacy

Key to framing a conversation about equity broadly and race equity specifically is understanding how heteropatriarchal white supremacy operates in the United States, how it misshapes institutions, and undermines social justice movements. During this webinar dive deep into an exploration of white supremacy that challenges the normative narratives of the USA. We will also consider how US Christianity has served as an architect and legitimizer of this ideology.

Webinar 2 via ZOOM
March 26, 2020
9:00 am to 10:30 am ET

Focus: Individual Prejudice, Systemic Racism, and the Legacy of Race Evasive Politics

In “Racism Without Racists: Color-Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in the United States,“ Dr. Eduardo Silva Bonilla argues that in post-civil rights United States the discourse on race and racism is handicapped by the illusion that with the end of “legal discrimination,” specifically Jim Crow, racism is no more. Every declaration of victory over racism weakened the collective capacity of United Statians to talk about systemic racism in complex and nuanced ways. This session will introduce participants to a framework for talking about systemic racism that accounts for both the role of individuals and institutions in its maintenance, debunks the ideology of “colorblindness,” and equips us to understand how institutions, regardless of their intent or stated values, become complicit in its maintenance.

Webinar 3 via ZOOM
May 21, 2020
3:00 pm to 4:30 pm ET

Focus: “White Dominance Its Ubiquitous! Learning to Apprehend it is Critical for Effective
Equity Work.”

The last webinar will explore the ways white dominance impacts and derails any and all efforts to build equitable institutions and communities. Its values, ways of being and knowing, and its ability to co-opt creativity in order to reinforce the racial status quo in the institution. Informed by the work of the late Dr. Gloria Anzaldua, the webinar will also consider the ways white dominance consolidates power for white society and those who align with it and uses power against all those pushed and removed to marginal spaces.
